Synopsis

Synopsis:

Sara (Hannah Murray – Games of Thrones, Skins) and her father Dave (Steven Waddington – Sleepy Hollow, Last of the Mohicans) move to a small village in Bridgend, which is haunted by suicides among its young inhabitants. While Dave, as the town’s new police officer, investigates the deaths, Sara befriends a group of local teenagers, who frequently gather in woodland to honour their friends who have recently taken their own lives. As her bond with the group deepens, Sara begins a dangerous love affair with one of them, Jamie (Josh O’Connor – The Durrells, The Riot Club), leading her father to find Sara at the centre of the very investigation he is heading.

About the film:

Starring Hannah Murray (Games of Thrones, Skins) in a stand-out performance, and inspired by true events, BRIDGEND is a powerful and intense mystery drama, based on an unexplained cluster of suicides that took place in a small former coal-mining province in South-Wales.

Between December 2007 and January 2012 seventy-nine suicides were reported in the area. Most of the victims were teenagers, who died in similar circumstances, leaving no suicide notes. Danish documentary filmmaker Jeppe Rønde followed the young inhabitants for six years and wrote the script based on their life stories. BRIDGEND is Rønde’s fiction film debut. It is shot entirely on location in Wales, with many of the local youths appearing in the film.

To this day, the mystery surrounding these tragic events remains.
